NOAA – What’s in the Forecast for 2024 Wildfire Season?

Dawn Johnson, Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service will lead discussion on the 2024 Wildfire Season. Wildfires can be a concern year-round in Northern Nevada, but some years are certainly worse than others. We'll explore what conditions are in place for the 2024 Fire Season, including the outlook, as well as the knowns and the unknowns as we head into the spring and summer season. An introduction to local weather, the Washoe Zephyr, and critical fire weather patterns will also be summarized.

CC Dispatch – Code Red and Information Sharing

Jenn Stoffer, Carson City 911 Communication Manager will be discussing information sharing and the ways the public can get the timeliest updates without having to dial 911. There will be further information provided regarding current platforms and tentative changes coming soon. Content will be corroborated with Deputy Emergency Manager Bakkedahl who will assist the 911 dispatch center in the most efficient ways of notifying the public during large scale emergencies, especially pertaining to wildland fires.

CCFD – Emergency Management Discussion on Evacuation and Shelter Options

Jon Bakkedahl, Deputy Emergency Manager will discuss the differences in mandatory and voluntary evacuations. Evacuation tends to lead to mass care operations which can include evacuation points, shelters, and assistance centers to help the evacuees find resources for both short-term and long-term needs. This effort will be a coordination of many city departments, and potentially state and federal resources.
